Adverse effects of FDA approved drugs
Adverse effects of FDA approved drugs cause over 20,000 deaths each year. Most of which are caused by pain medications.
Pain Medications are primarily used to relieve pain associated with Arthritis, and are the primary cause of arthritic damage. All medications have the potential to cause serious side effects (the primary reason we should do everything possible to avoid taking them) a fact that people seeking relief from pain and disease symptoms often forget. But as Americans take more and more of these medications, reports of adverse events are soaring (tripling since 1998), says the Los Angeles Times and the numbers are soaring with over 90,000 adverse events reported and over 15,000 deaths in 2005 and possibly over 20,000 in 2007. Nine out of ten events where attributed to 20% of the drugs, some of which are common pain and immune suppressants for arthritis. Five of the six that caused the most deaths where painkillers: OxyContin, Fentanyl, morphine, acetominophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) and methadone. These same pain killers, along with estrogens, insulin, warfarin (a poison first invented by the Nazis and used in their extermination camps now used to thin blood in the treatment of heart disease) and Paroxetine (an anti-depressant) caused the most adverse reactions. The clear finding is that we are losing ground in terms of drug safety. Says Thomas J. Moore of the institute for Safe Medication practices. hat ought to be of great concern.
