Liposomal Delivery - The Secret Behind Effective Colostrum
You can have an even greater immune boost by taking colostrums with some form of 'effectiveness advantage', typically a lipid coating or formulation. The purpose of the lipid is to increase the absorption (or bioavailability) of the colostrum in your GI tract. It makes it more powerful.
During the last decade, scientists have discovered significant value in the minor bioactive components in milk. The cream fraction from milk has been studied which has led to the isolation of a key fraction called a 'lipid'. A lipid is the coating the surrounds the globules of fat in the milk. Its unique, important composition suggests some health benefits to be gained in enhancing the properties of colostrum powder.
What is a lipid?
A lipid is a tiny fraction of the cream portion of milk (less than 0.001%). The most important lipids are called phosholipids. they contain a hydrophobic (water-fearing) and hydrophilic (water-loving) end that makes them soluble in water. A number of published studies have outlined the diverse and important effects of phospholipids on the processes in the body.
Amazing phospholipids
Phospholipids wrap around the fat globules in such a way that their neutral (or hydrophilic) end extends into the fat portion of milk from floating to the top.
The key phospholipids and phosphatidy-choline, phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylethanolamine and sphingomyelin. These phospholipids protrude through the cell membrane, where they act as gatekeepers to the cells in our bodies by allowing only the passage of molecules important to cellular processes. They also provide rigidity to the cell membrane and play a role in cell-to-cell recognition.
Phospholipids are an excellent source of choline, which has been shown to increase brain function and has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of Alzheimer's and similar diseases.
Phospholipids, in particular phosphatidylcholine, have been shown to have a positive effect on the liver by protection it against damage caused by toxins, including alcohol, drugs and viruses. Sphingomyelin has been shown to have a very positive effect on protecting the skin from damage and enhancing the healing process. Sphingomyelin has also been shown to stimulate the production of interferon, thus enhancing the immune response.
Gangliosides
As well as phospholipids, dispersibility formulations may also include gangliosides that have been shown to act in protecting the intestine against infection. Gangliosides exhibit antimicrobial activity in that they are both bactericidal and bacteriostatic to organisms that are frequently associated with causing diarrhea in young mammals.
Added Value
Lipid formulations increase absorption, thus offering a significant value advantage to the customer buying those products. It makes sense, wherever possible, to buy colostrum with lipid formulations.
